About This Self-Assessment

What it is, what it is not, and what to do with the result.

Is this an official Essential Eight assessment?

No. This is an indicative self-check against the intent of the eight strategies at roughly Maturity Level One. A formal assessment reviews evidence - configurations, logs, restore tests - against the current ASD maturity model, and that is what insurers and tender panels expect. Use this tool to find out where you likely stand before paying for the formal version.

How long does the self-assessment take?

About three minutes. Sixteen questions, two per strategy, answered yes, partly or no. You see your results immediately - nothing is required to view them.

Do I have to give my email address to see my results?

No. Results display on the page as soon as you finish. Entering an email is optional and only does one thing: sends you a copy of your gap list so you have it in writing.

What happens after the self-assessment?

The tool gives you a per-strategy verdict and a prioritised gap list. If you want the formal version - evidence-based, against the current ASD maturity model, suitable to show an insurer or client - that is our Essential 8 assessment service at $180/hr ex GST. Most small-business assessments are a fixed-scope engagement quoted before we start.

What is a good score?

There is no pass mark, because the Essential Eight is a maturity model rather than a test. What matters is the pattern: a business with backups and MFA solid but application control absent has a very different risk profile from one with the reverse. The ASD recommends bringing all eight strategies to the same maturity level rather than maximising a few.

Want the formal version?

An evidence-based assessment against the current ASD maturity model - configurations checked, restore tests run, findings in writing. Suitable to show an insurer, a client or a tender panel.
